My name is Channing Hyde and I am excited to join the Ascent Academy team as a 7th & 8th grade English teacher. This will be my first year at Ascent and as a teacher! I recently graduated from Utah Valley University with an English education degree, fulfilling my childhood dream of being a teacher. I am dedicated to creating an environment where students can feel comfortable with being themselves and can develop and cultivate the skills that will aid them in becoming life-long learners.

Before coming to Ascent, I completed my student teaching in the Utah County area and on the Navajo Reservation, where I learned so much about teaching students of different backgrounds. I also worked with the Creative Learning Studio at the School of Education at UVU where I wrote curricula that integrated STEM into K-12 disciplines and facilitated summer camps that taught students to utilize the engineering design process to creatively solve problems; I also got to play with a lot of robots which I might just bring into my classes this year.

When I’m not in the classroom, I’m spending time with my husband and two dogs. I enjoy reading and writing, watching TV and movies, and listening to, playing, and writing music.
