Hello! My name is Marina Gonzalez. I joined Ascent last fall as your school counselor and I’m so excited to be part of an amazing school and look forward to meeting all my students! I was born in Mexico, but raised in Los Angeles, California since I was a year old. I am fluent in Spanish and enjoy dancing to all sorts of music. I just recently graduated from the University of Utah (Go Utes!) with a Masters in Educational Psychology. I also obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology there. Prior to becoming a school counselor, I worked with parents and students for over 20 years at a nearby district. I worked as a legal secretary for ten years in my earlier years, so I have a thing for lawyer t.v. series. I worked as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America for over 25 years and ran a Venturing co-ed crew with my sons and daughter, so I enjoy camping, hiking, and high adventure. Yes, I my sons have their Eagle rank and Silver award. Some of my hobbies include reading, shopping, and looking for inspiring and uplifting messages for my office. Please stop by to see and contribute if you like. You will find me in room 132 next to the main office. My door reads…”You are loved, you are valued, you are important! Let’s talk about your future…”
I have been married for 32 years to my beloved husband, Richard. We have four adult children (Janina, Chris, Krystal and Jonathan) and five grandsons (Andrew, Lincoln, Tommy, Mateo and Ezra (newest addition this August)! And of course, we also have an amazing son-in-law named Pearson and daughter-in-law named Lya. We inherited two mini schnauzers from my married daughter, Janina and a chihuahua from my married son, Chris. So we get the family thing with pets. Spending time with my grandkids is my favorite kind of vacation since they all live outside of Utah.
